Usage of Chalk Ideas and Tips

Chalk can be applied for soft coloring purpose with great ease. Chalks do come in variety of styles and colors such as hard and soft pastels etc. Remember to use a setting spray (fixative); a setting spray helps the chalk stay were you put it. If you forget to use setting spray it can be a real mess. Chalks are used in scrap booking for various purposes:

1. Highlight and brighten die cuts



2. Paper piecing



3. Alphabet letters



4. Punch art.

Ideas and Tips:

1. Applicators that come along with the chalk package can be used in variety of ways for coloring scrapbook materials. Also some additional applicators are available at craft stores and can work wonders if used efficiently. You can also use a cotton swab, make-up applicator, facial tissue or cotton ball for decorating your scrapbooks with chalk.



2. While working with chalk, if you happen to make a mistake you do not need to throw the whole picture out; special chalk eraser are available at most crafts outlets that can remove any chalk work cleanly without leaving any traces on the paper.



3. It is good practice to ensure that papers, page protectors and glues are acid free as acids can interact with your photographs causing them to fade, become brittle and yellow. Use of acid free papers ensures that the photograph will last for a longer time.



4. You can glue the items first or decorate your items separately from your scrapbook and then glue it into place so that chalk does not stick to the scrapbook. Chalks are best used with templates.



5. To avoid the difficulty of lightening the chalk color, you should start with a darker complementing color. Apply it lightly and continue adding more shading until the right color has been achieved. Also, outline the outer edge first and then add more chalk on the inside. This technique will highlight and give definition to your die cuts, paper piecing etc.
