You should paint a dot of the same color on the top of plastic film containers. If the lids are tight then they will keep the paint from drying out and you can see the dot on the top to recognize color at a glance.

Inkpads can be utilized successfully for making your own background colors by pressing down on the page.

You can use a damp paintbrush to brush away any errant or unwanted bits of powder from your painting. This will not spoil your painting and errant can be removed easily.

Wide multiple stripes of colors can be created with a single stroke by using the side of an unwrapped crayon notched with a knife.

Beautiful background paper can be created easily with the help of children's finger paints. You need to mix the colors all over the page, and then scrape off the excess paint with a spatula.

You can use spray paint cans for making your own background papers. Also you can place several fern fronds on your page and lightly spray to beautify the picture. These spray paint cans can be obtained easily from discount shops.

You can use colored pencils in place of chalks as they have the same effect as chalks and are cheaper than chalks. Sharpen the pencil over your paper and remove any timber shavings. Then use your finger to smudge the color around. This makes for easy blending and if you use watercolor pencils a light spray of water over the top will give you a watercolor finish.

You should buy paintbrush markers instead of inkpads. A packet of markers is cheaper than a whole selection of inkpad colors. Or you can buy 1 or 2 rainbow inkpads, they cost more but not as much as buying each color alone.

A strong brew of tea can be used for staining and sealing the surface of a wooden bowl or cutting board. Rub the wood with mineral oil, use in a cloth, rub until it is well covered and really worked into the wood. Take a clean dry cloth and rub the excess oil off until you can rub it with your finger and get hardly any oil off.

When painting a few days consecutively rinse brush and wrap with glad wrap to have the brush remain fresh for the next days work

Use children's coloring books for a template or as background art. The coloring books with large simple pictures work best

Painting: Small pieces are easier to paint if you use double-sided tape on a heavy piece of cardboard. Place small items onto the tape and paint. Invest in an airbrush if you do a lot of base coating or use aerosol sprays--time saved is worth the extra cost of paint. Paint one color at a time. Invest in artist quality brushes for detail strokes.
