You can use three-pound fishing line in place of microfilament, as it is much cheaper. It can be obtained easily from an angling shop or a hardware store.
You can avail an inexpensive source of raw material from the home dressmaker/sewer shops. They usually
throw away the remaining scrapes if asked they can deliver that to you.
You can have clips, zips, straps and rings. Also you can find the bins of zips, jars of buttons and fasteners, shoulder pads etc.
If you like the look of fibers, but not the cost, an alternative option which looks almost as good is to buy some balls of multicolored wool. There are all sorts of styles and colors, from bright and knobby to earthy and feathery. You can use them alone or add ribbon, braiding or cord.
A great way to use those discarded scraps of acid free paper (patterned or solid) is to piece together a crazy quilt. Adhere your scraps down to your album page to make a crazy quilt background. Use your pens to make fun or fancy stitches
Old dresses can be put to great use like:
- Big old dresses can be cut up for the fabric.
- You can make funky skirts, bags and accessories from old jeans fabrics.
- An old dress for 50 cents can give you a few dollars worth of nice buttons or a zip.
