It can be easily made with a cover (cardboard used for binding) of an old book or from the box your T.V. came packaged in or any other such package, which otherwise is a waste.
Method:
- Take out the cover.
- Pad it with cotton or some sort of foam you can find in your household items.
- Affix it properly with the help of glue spread evenly over the cardboard.
- Pick out a colored paper, according to your taste or what sort of impact you want your scrapbook to have on the user.
- Color it with different pencil colors present at your house or you can use photos, which are in bad shape for juxtaposing purpose on the cover of the book. The various images on the cover of the book will give it a very natural look and the cover itself will tell the story within the book.
- On the book you can write out a message.
- If you go out to buy a scrapbook then you may find that it will cost you around half of the total amount of the scrapbook project.
Helpful Tips:
- Pad form papers can be found easily at any stationary store in the supermarket or retailers shop. These can be used for making cover and are durable.
- If you want it to have a spiral binding for the convenience while turning pages you can use nails for making holes and a colored reel of plastics or steel can also be used for that and you can use the color of you choice.
- Use foam pad or any padding of your choice while pricking down the nail into the cover or card stock. It will not harm the table and a nice hole can be made in the cover with ease. Also it is a safer method, as it will not hurt your finger.
- You can buy a three-ring binder with plastic baseball card protector sheets. This can be used easily for other purposes also like: Store smaller stickers and storing die cuts
- Place the extra sheets in the back of your scrapbook while working on your project to help organize small pieces.
- Acid free materials should be used for making a scrapbook so that they may not harm the picture or photos. So it is better and cheaper to use acrylic paints instead of inkpads.
- For stenciling you can use regular wedge-shaped cosmetic sponges instead of using especially packaged sponges for stamping or stenciling. Both serve the same purpose while the former is cheaper than the latter.
Personal experience:
I searched for a heritage album cover after searching a long time. I found myself spending double the amount of money as of the cost of a costliest book cover available in the market and this very thought shocked me. All my efforts had gone in vain and then I decided to make a scrapbook of my own. I bought a plain album and covered it with a beautiful fabric of my choice! Added a satin ribbon and I had a customized scrapbook! The whole project cost me fifteen dollars.
